Haven't found what you're looking for? Please, feel free to send us an e-mail or leave a comment if you have any questions. We'll be happy to answer!

1. Who Created KetoDiet?

KetoDiet is an on-going project I started with my partner Nikos in 2012 and includes KetoDiet for iOS and KetoDiet Basic for iOS and Android. Apart from the apps, I have authored several low-carb cookbooks (my third cookbook will be released in spring 2017).

KetoDiet app is a complex app and took several years to develop. Since the launch in 2012, we have continuously been working on more features and improvements. It's a full-time job for us.

2. I Paid For the iOS App, Can I Get the Android App for Free?

We appreciate your support and we would love to be able to do this! Unfortunately, we have no control over the pricing when it comes to charges between platforms. Apple (iOS) and Google (Android) are different platforms that don't share profits. Since we only receive a part of the proceeds, we can't give the app for free even if you already have the Android or iOS app.

Important: If you want to use our app on the second device, make sure to sign up via Profile > Data Sync. When you sign in to your second device, you'll have all your data synced. Without this step you won't be able to restore your data on another platform.

When it comes to the two apps (iOS and Android), there are no major differences between the two apps. Although we strive for feature parity, some features may temporarily not be available as we have different teams working on both apps at the same time.

3. How Do I Get a Refund?

If for any reason you want to get a refund, you can do it in iTunes (iOS), or on Google Play (Android).

Please, keep in mind that app developers don't have access to transactions and can't issue refunds. To get a refund in iTunes, follow these steps. On Google Play you can do that within 15 minutes of purchase that Google Play provides for this purpose.

4. I Got your "Keto diet app" and Want to Get a Refund

We get a lot of support requests and complaints for other unrelated apps that use the same or similar names. In fact, we filed DMCAs for several as they are sometimes using our recipes too.

Please contact the support of the app you are using. If you find an app that uses our recipes, please let us know, we appreciate your help!

How do you know if you have our app and not an imposter app? Our app has the egg & fish icon.

How to Cancel App Subscriptions

If you believe that you were being misled and find it difficult to cancel the subscription or to contact support of this app, here's how to cancel the subscription (you do need to do that or they will keep charging you) - for Android, google “how to cancel subscription in Google Play”.

Apart from using several shady tactics, imposter apps (and recently even some well established apps that have changed their names) are parasitizing on the good of our app by using the same name such as "Keto Diet App" or "KetoDiet" or "Keto App" which is the same name we used for our free app. Unfortunately, it's hard to do anything about apps that only break ethical rules.

Leave a Review on the Apple Store/Google Play

We have to deal with user complaints which creates overheads for us. Instead, we would much rather spend our time working on our app. If you feel that you were being misled by other apps, the best thing to do - apart from getting a refund - is to write a review.

5. Is the KetoDiet App Free? Is There a Subscription?

Update:The KetoDiet App is now free to download on iOS and Android with an optional subscription plan for advanced features including full access to over 1,500 customizable recipes that can all be added to your Planner, advanced tracking including ketone, glucose and cholesterol tracking, full KetoDiet guide, adding recipe steps to your custom meals, syncing with Apple Health Kit and much more!

When it comes to Apps, the expectations can sometimes be unrealistic and I'd like to explain how we run our blog & apps so there is complete transparency.

Since 2012, with the ever increasing traffic, costs to run our blog also increased. We don't use AdThrive or other advertising services because we want to have complete control of what our readers can see. We only use the Amazon affiliate program and promote a few products we buy ourselves and trust (always with a disclosure). This currently helps us run the blog as it covers the costs of hosting, but it does not cover maintenance and development.

It's a full-time job for me and my partner. The app is only part of my job. I've spent several years creating the content: recipes, articles, reviews, diet plans and challenges. Additionally, creating content costs us a lot of money; hundreds of dollars per recipe cerated by recipe developers and a lot more for expert articles.

The overall feedback we receive has been brilliant and keeps us motivated but there are some people who may complain that our app is expensive.

I'd like to give you some background and explain how our pricing works. Since 2012, we've been adding new features at no extra cost with no subscription fees which is not sustainable long term.

we simply realized that if we want to be able to keep adding features and content, we have to make sure we can afford it. We want to make sure our app is the best it can be via constant development and content creation.

Keep in mind that similar online services that offer same or even fewer features would charge you over 30 USD every month.

Free Recipes, Articles and Diet Plans

There is only so much free content we can provide: hundreds of recipes that we also provide via our integrated blog in the App itself, articles, diet plans and challenges. All this is very rewarding, but also takes an incredible amount of time to create and maintain. Some people take all this for granted but we can only continue doing this if it's sustainable.

The illusion many people have is that creating an app will make them rich. Nothing can be further from the truth. Just ask any app developer and they will no doubt advice you to steer clear from developing an app. The chances of recovering your development costs are minute and a large part of the proceeds is used for further development of the App.

So Much More Than an eBook

Compared to an eBook, our App has required years of commitment and continuous maintenance. In fact, I know what it takes to create an eBook - I have created several free eBooks that you can download here. Even a regular printed cookbook would cost you $15 - $20 and that is just for a fraction of content we offer in our apps.

Free KetoDiet Challenges

We run Keto Challenges (Note: temporarily stopped as we are working on improvements) that are free to join, with access to our members-only community, useful tools and eBooks. It has been a fantastic experience. At the same time it has also been a very time-consuming process but we are determined to keep improving it. We know that community support and accountability are the most powerful tools to help you achieve your goals - and that's why we created the KetoDiet Challenge!

Our priority is to protect our investment and make the app the best we can for our legitimate users.

What Features Does Your App Include?

  • An app that is beautifully designed specifically for low-carb diets and strictly focused on providing quality content with precise nutrition data.
  • A complete guide to the Ketogenic diet (a book in its own right).
  • Planner and monitoring features (iOS) to track your progress - the most complex part of our app.
  • 1,500+ delicious low-carb recipes, all including step-by-step photos and useful tips.
  • Fully integrated blog with frequent weekly updates including recipes, diet plans and articles from experts.
  • Print-friendly & easy to export shopping list to make managing your shopping easy.
  • Support - we always try to reply as soon as possible. Please, keep in mind that due to our very busy schedule, this may take up to a week.
  • Apple Health Kit support
  • Users can create their own recipes and include photos and recipe steps.
  • ... and many more features!

KetoDiet is an ongoing project we've been working on for several years. In order to add new features and new recipes that are often requested by our users, we need to keep this project sustainable. Please, support us by writing a review!

6. Can Multiple Users Use KetoDiet on a Single Device?

Not yet but it will be possible with the upcoming update (see more details here).

The iPad is fundamentally a single-user device (at least for now) and we had to build our own infrastructure to support this feature.

The only way to use KetoDiet on the same device is to create two accounts via KetoDiet > Profile > Data Sync. Please keep in mind that you have to sign in and out every time you want to switch. Depending on the amount of data required to sync, it will take time for your device to sync so be patient.

7. Can I Track Exercise with the KetoDiet App?

Not yet but we are working on integration with Apple Health Kit. Many apps use partial integration which is easy to do but full integration is complicated and requires a lot of work. Almost there!

8. Does the KetoDiet App have a Barcode Scanning Feature for Adding Ingredients?

Barcode scanning is now in beta testing and will be out soon.

Our priority is accuracy and quality of our database, not quantity as common for most apps. Please read more about our food database and barcode scanning here.

9. Do You Provide Professional Advice?

No, I'm sorry, we don't offer this service.

Our admins will be happy to give you tips or share your questions on our Facebook page, in the KetoDiet Support Group or by leaving a comment on our blog. However, I can't promise I'll reply to e-mails asking for health/weight loss advice. This is down to two reasons:

  1. I'm not qualified to give you professional personalized advice. If you are looking for personalized advice, please, contact a dietitian or speak to your doctor.
  2. I have a very busy schedule and very little free time. I take any advice or opinion I share seriously and offering a brief reply is neither helpful nor appropriate. Please, do not get offended if I don't reply to your message.

If you do need to speak to a professional, you can contact a qualified low-carb / keto expert.

10. Future Plans

Most of the features we've been working on have been driven by your feedback. Please keep in mind, KetoDiet is a complex application and adding new features takes time and a lot of effort. Here is just an overview of some of the features we've been working on, and features we are planning to add in the near future:

  • Allergy filtering options
  • Apple HealthKit & Watch support, activity tracking
  • Custom Ingredients: adding custom serving sizes and being able to specify values per slice, tablespoon, cup, etc.
  • Add option for recipe notes in custom meals so that you have all you need to make your favorite recipe (instructions, cooking time etc.)
  • Basket: improvements when adding meals from the Planner so they always list minimum amounts required to make a recipe, even if you only eat one serving in a given period of time.
  • Integration with KetoDiet diet plans: my free and premium keto diet plans with just one click

  • KetoDiet Challenges & community integration so you can get live support via the app!

  • Even more advanced tracking options including custom tracking (anything you want to track that is not in the options)

  • Add nutrition facts to hundreds of recipes included in my cookbooks so you can quickly add them to the Planner

  • (Potentially, although a very complicated feature) Multi-user account support with data sync and fast user switching. This feature will be free for the first account.

If you have more questions about KetoDiet, please let us know! If you'd like to see a feature that is currently not supported, chances are it is in our to-do list. We really appreciate any feedback and will get back to you as soon as we can. Send us an e-mail or simply leave a comment below!

Here's what we have done so far:

  • More tracking options (ketone levels, glucose levels, water intake, cholesterol and triglycerides) --> this has been done
  • Option to change e-mail address when using multiple devices and syncing
  • Adding "favorites" to the Planner so you can quickly add frequently used meals
  • Adding new meals into the Starter pack and existing optional recipe packages (once you get any package, any recipes added in the future are always free!)
  • Make KetoDiet Basic a universal App with support for all iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) --> this has been done
  • bring KetoDiet Basic to Android --> this has been done
  • Make KetoDiet a universal App with support for all iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) --> our current task. Beta testing will start in November 2016, the app will be released in December 2016 or January 2017 --> this has been done
  • Provide access to all advanced features for KetoDiet Basic users through an in-app. Not everyone wants to use the advanced features in KetoDiet but we want to make it easy for those who change their minds. This will be done in February 2017 --> this has been done
  • Bring KetoDiet to Android and enable an upgrade path from KetoDiet Basic on Android --> this has been done.
  • Copy & paste planner meals for easy tracking --> This has been done in 2019.
  • New recipe packages, favorite recipes requested by our users --> This has been done by integrating KetoDiet Meals with Blog Meals
  • Unify KetoDiet Meals with KetoDiet blog meals so that any filtering can be applied universally --> Advanced filtering is our current focus.
  • Enable cloning & editing KetoDiet Meals --> This has been done in 2020.
  • Universal search across all recipes, meals and ingredients when adding them to the Planner --> This has been done in 2019.
  • Option to add recipe steps to Custom Meals --> This has been done in 2020.
  • Continuously updated: Adding new restaurant chains to our database to quickly find keto-friendly options when eating out. More free recipes and articles. We will keep adding even more free recipes and articles more frequently via our fully integrated blog!

You can learn more about our Apps, my cookbooks and future plans in in this interview with Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt of Diet Doctor and podcast with Brian of Ketovangelist.

11. AppStore Reviews & Clarifications

I would first like to thank everyone who has left a review on the AppStore. Reviews & feedback is what helps us improve KetoDiet and enables us do our job the best we can. If you like what we do and want to support us, please, don't forget to leave a review!

KetoDiet App FAQ

Although we get excellent feedback from our users there are occasions where people leave misleading feedback. This creates some confusion as people are unsure about the features in the app. The App Store recently enabled developers to reply to reviews but it does not completely solve the problem.

We have no illusions: We know it's impossible to please everyone and users have the right to express their view as they should. What I want to do is to clarify a few points that are incorrect and may cause confusion.

Lastly, there are other developers selling apps whose interest is to downrate other apps. It's not unusual to see reviews that make no sense or complain about non-existing issues. Since the AppStore doesn't give an option to comment on reviews, the only way to deal with them is to get honest reviews from those of you, who actually use our app. That's why honest reviews are so important to us - it's the only way to support us in we do.

Complaints about pricing and in-apps

This is the most common reason for bad reviews on the App Store. In fact, most apps are facing the same issue when it comes to pricing and in-apps. It's a race to the bottom.

We have explained the pricing in the previous sections. If you're unhappy with the in-apps or anything else, you don't have to buy them. In fact, you can get a refund for any app including in-apps. We do all we possibly can to make it absolutely clear that our app contains in-apps: we have the details on the primary AppStore screenshot, in the AppStore description and on our website. Also, AppStore clearly tags apps with "Offers In-App Purchases".

Unfortunately, people who leave bad reviews because of pricing and in-apps have unrealistic expectations. Our app is our livelihood, not just a hobby, and although we give away a lot for free, we have to keep this sustainable. The expectation of paying less than 5 dollars and getting new content for free forever is simply unrealistic.

And don't be mistaken, very few apps are truly free. Apps that are "free" either use advertising or collect your data for marketing purposes. This is something we will never do.

We Need Your Help to Fight Fake Reviews

Over the last few months, our app has been the target of fake reviews on the App Store. Initially, we assumed that this was just a coincidence - we're not naive to expect that everyone will like our app. But we soon realised that this is not a coincidence based on the consistency of the false claims.

Although developers like us can now report fake reviews and respond to them directly, the only way to counter balance this is to persuade genuine users to leave honest reviews. To prove our point, I include a few of the fake reviews below.

Exhibit A: the elephant in the room

KetoDiet App FAQ

Top prize goes to "Awesome tracker" who forgot to change the name before leaving a negative review. It wouldn't be the first time our competition used shady tactics to mislead people in an attempt to damage the good name of our app.

KetoDiet App FAQ

Exhibit B: the deceiver

KetoDiet App FAQ

The user claims there is "no tracker" and there are "no recipes included" for our fully featured KetoDiet App. Ironically enough, tracking is the main feature of the KetoDiet app which also includes hundreds of recipes.

KetoDiet App FAQ

Exhibit C: the serial app store abuser

KetoDiet App FAQ

Apple detects unusual behaviour and in the case below, they refused to offer the reviewer a refund due to "evidence of fraud, refund abuse, or other manipulative behaviour".

The review below was changed several times, each time with a different story, until the "reviewer" decided to go with the single line of "I didn't care for this app".

KetoDiet App FAQ

Our message to those using our KetoDiet app is simple. If you want us to work on improving the app and creating more free recipes rather than spending our time filling up forms to report fake reviews, then please leave an honest review on the App Store or Google Play. It only takes a minute and will help us focus on what really matters - making our app the best we can. Thank you for your support!

Need Technical Support? Send a Support Email!

Please, do not use comments on the blog for technical support. We get a lot of support requests for other apps that use the same or similar name. To ensure you have our app, please contact us via our app under Help > Support. I'm afraid we can't guarantee a speedy reply to any blog post comments.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I have read the reasons for missing features which is understandable however I am at a loss as to why there is no HealthKit integration. Happy to pay $15australian for a great product but given that lots of things like Intermittent fasting, sleep, smart water bottles are caluated with other apps health kit would be great.
I also found it really difficult to find this page to reach out.
Beautiful layout of recipes FYI I’m just shattered about the other stuff.

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #

Thank you Byron! HealthKit is indeed in our to-do list (see above). Everything takes time and we are doing our best to add the features users want most but given the low price if apps in general, app developers can only do so much at a time, and new features take weeks and sometimes even months to implement and cost money (if they are done properly). Just to clarify, the best way to contact us is via e-mail (in the App> under Help). Posts on the blog are only meant to be informative.

Hello,
I am happy with the app, but my Goals somehow get recogfigured without action on my part. I am using the Advanced function to set my goals, it reverts back to the auto generated goals. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Please advise!
Thanks so much.

Hello Shelly, I'm not sure I understand. Are you sure your are using our app? If it doesn't looks like this: ketodietapp.com/ it is not our app. When you tap on "Goal (in the Edit mode), you can select Custom Targets. There is no "Advanced" in the Profile section. Just to clarify, the best way to contact us is via e-mail (in the App> under Help). Posts on the blog are only meant to be informative. Question--  What types of things are the in-apps that are not included in the app purchase price? Additional recipes? Meal plans? Functions? Appreciate your help.☺

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
8/7/2018 10:08:47 AM

Hello DeAnn, The only in-app is in KetoDiet Basic and that is the upgrade path to the full list of features. The fully featured KetoDiet app has no more in-apps (we removed them in a recent update so all recipes are included). More about features at: ketodietapp.com/

Dear KetoDiet team,
I’ve noticed that the nutritional facts on all of the different olive oils that I’ve tried to input are incorrect. I’ve logged them with the barcode and they all say 18 kcals per tbsp instead of 130 kcals which is the usual. The fats are also off with the olive oils. Why is this happening? As you can imagine logging this information incorrectly can make a great impact on intake.
Thanks ,
Daniela

I’m looking through your blog and trying to find some info on fat content of food.
I’ve seen some tables on protein and carbs but not on the fat side. Where am I missing this info?
Just trying to see what my food intake looks like before I get into keto
I understand the calculation of my fats/ protein and carbs but need to figure what food they look like
Cheers

I purchased this app with another phone. And I can't seem to get the app on new phone without another purchase. Please let me know what I can do to possibly fix this without another purchase. Thank you.

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
6/26/2018 12:23:02 AM

Hi Michelle, all your app purchases are linked to your iTunes account - not to a device so you should be able to find all your purchases as long as you use the same account. Please, make sure to back-up your data on the old device (you may have set this automatically) and restore your data on your new device. I hope this helps!

I’ve been trying to cancel my subscription for months through the app and no one has responded nor is there an option to cancel in app.  Please help.

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
6/18/2018 8:56:05 PM

Dear Sara, there is no subscription fee in our app - this has already been addressed in this post including screenshots of similar support e-mails, point 5.
If you want to cancel your subscription, please, contact the makers of the app you are using. You very likely installed the "Keto Diet Tracker" which is free but charges a fee ($12 subscription) once you add more than a few meals to your planner. Once you install this app on your device, the name appears as "KetoDiet" - exactly like our app. We have to deal with user complaints which creates overheads for us. Instead, we would much rather spend our time working on our app.
If you were being mislead and find it difficult to cancel the subscription or to contact support of this app:
1. How to cancel the subscription (you do need to do that or they will keep charging you): https://www.imore.com/how-to-cancel-app-store-subscription-ipad-iphone-mac-apple-tv
2. Report this app to Apple
3. Leave a review on the Apple Store

Hello there! I really want to first of all thank you for this app, because it is truly wonderful and has helped me get my health back on track tremendously. I love the custom meal feature as I do cook a lot of Indian food, which has always been difficult to measure for nutritional data, for me. I do have a question. Is there a way we can delete or edit our custom meals? When I was just starting to use this feature, I accidentally clicked save when the recipe wasn't finished so now I have a half-recipe in my custom meals.
I would love your input! Keep up the good work 😊
Mirah

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
6/18/2018 9:01:45 PM

Thank you so much for your kind words Mirah! You can edit any custom meal by tapping on the meal you want to edit (under Custom Meals) and then tap the pen tool on top right. You can then modify or delete the custom meal. I hope this helps! 😊

How do I transfer my purchased app on iphone to a samsung (s9)?

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
6/10/2018 6:05:33 PM

Hi Joy, I’m afraid in-apps cannot be shared between Android and iOS devices - this is out of our control. iOS and Android are two different platforms and they do not share their sales. That's why sharing apps and in-apps is not possible.

Hi,
I have the full app, but because I am a simple person, I am having trouble understanding how it works, so I haven't been using it much. I have it on my Fire Tablet. Is there a KetoDiet App page for dummies? 😊 I really want to use it, but I get confused by it. I know, it is very easy to figure out for your average person. 😄
It might be that I am trying to figure out how to use or get to things that aren't on the Android yet, and that might be the problem, but I paid for this app, and I really want to use it. Thank you.

5/22/2018 12:49:37 PM

Thank you for your kind words, Carol! It could be that you are looking for a feature that has not yet been added to the Android platform - we are now working on the next update to bring feature parity to Android. You can find a quick guide here: ketodietapp.com/AppGuide.aspxFilter (also accessible via the app). We will work on this to reflect the latest updates.

Hi Donna, the only way to download the app is through Google Play. If your device does not support Google Play, I'm afraid you won't be able to download it.

I have been using this App for 2 years now and still love it!  When I have had question they actually answered and quickly too.  I am always telling people about your App, what I have found to be the problem is people don’t take the time or maybe just don’t understand how to use it.  When I have sat down and showed them all the features it has they are amazed.   Maybe a video on exactly what all is on it and how to access it.  I feel like a commercial but I had tried others and this is worth paying for in my opinion.  Thanks for putting so much effort into following this lifestyle.

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
5/22/2018 1:05:02 PM

Mary, thank you so much for your kind words! ❤ The truth is that with more features, it’s difficult to keep an app simple as there is always additional complexity. We try to keep it simple but always have to reach a compromise. We actually had a video but the problem with it is that it becomes out-dated the moment we release another update which is on average every 2 months. Time-wise and cost-wise its a lot of work. I think what we need is to improve and frequently update the online guide (accessible via the app). We want to keep using screenshots and explain the app step-by-step in detail. Thank you again for such a lovely and useful feedback!

I love this app, thanks!  Do you have a feature whereby I can punch in my own information?  I use many recipes from various sources that list the nutritional value and want to sometimes manually add to my daily macro count.

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
5/18/2018 8:49:12 PM

Thank you! The best way to do that would be to create Custom Meals in the Menu > Custom Meals. You can then specify the nutrition facts or create a custom meal by adding ingredients. Also, keep in mind that some online sources may be using databases with errors - it's always best to create custom meals by adding the ingredients (if you have time to do that).

Are you able to track number of calories per day in addition to macros with the app?  I'd like to be able to generate a plan that includes calorie intake and macros.
Thank you

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
5/18/2018 8:51:30 PM

Hi Tresa, you can track all macros (total carbs, fibre, net carbs, protein, fat and calories). You can set a limit on Net carbs and then enter your stats in the Profile section so the app can calculate the ideal protein/fat/calorie intake based on your goal (again, you can set your own goal). I hope this helps!

I just have a quick question.  I'm new to Keto and your app.  I discovered the bar code read under Create a Custom Meal Add an ingredient.  I was wondering if there was some place else that you can use the bar code read.  I find it an amazing feature but a little cumbersome to reach it the way I do.
I appreciate your help!
Joan

Martina @ KetoDiet 6 years ago #
5/18/2018 8:59:15 PM

Thank you Joan! It is always challenging to try and keep an app simple as with every newly added feature, there is additional complexity. The idea is that when people scan for a barcode, they want to add an ingredient/meal to the Planner or when creating a Custom Meal. I do believe this is a great suggestion and we are planning to add the barcode scanning directly under Ingredients to make it easier to discover. It will still be in the Custom Meal editor and in the Planner. Thanks again for the great feedback!

Does your app calculate net carbs?

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #

Yes, it does. You can set a limit on net carbs and our app tracks both total and net carbs.

Desiree 7 years ago #
4/10/2018 6:24:17 PM

I can’t seem to find where it is tracking net carbs. I just see carbs eaten and then if I look at the food I can see fiber but not sure if it’s calculating net carbs or not? Am I able to set it to see net and total so I know what I am consuming? Or is it already calculating net carbs.

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
4/10/2018 9:10:38 PM

Hi Desiree, that doesn't sound like our app -  we always list net carbs and in fact, the emphasis is on net carbs. Unfortunately, it is not unusual for other apps to use the same name we do (please, see part 5 for more information). To make sure you are using our app, please, contact us via the KetoDiet App directly under Help > Technical Support. Our app is this one: ketodietapp.com/ I hope this helps!

Hello,
I just bought your app and enjoy it very much, so much in fact that I am interested in purchasing additional content but when I try to do that the screen just blinks blue and nothing happens. Both on my iPad Pro 12.9 2017 and on my iPhone 5s. I tried pressing "Restore Purchases" even though I had none, just to see what happens, and when I do that I just see and iOS message "Cannot connect to iTunes". Does this happen to more people or is it first time you hear about it?
Best Regards,

Martina
when you say a counter do you mean that if I enter 1 cup of broccoli in my lunch plan that it will automatically enter the carb count? if so does it do it for meats also?

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
2/27/2018 12:12:46 PM

Hi John, yes our app works as a tracker/planner. Once you add any meals or ingredients to your day, our app will automatically count the macronutrients for you. What you need to do is to set your macros in the Profile tab and then stay within the recommended ranges. Keep in mind that tracking is available in KetoDiet (fully featured). KetoDiet Basic does not include tracking but this option can be enabled via an upgrade in the main menu. I hope this helps!

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #

Hello Marie, as far as you're using the same iTunes account, all apps you have previously purchased will be transferred to your new device. But when it comes to your data in the app (anything you have created such as custom meals or planner days), you have 3 options if you want to keep them:
1) use an iTunes backup
2) use an iCloud backup
3) or use our data sync in the app in Profile > Data sync.
I hope this helps!

Tim 7 years ago #

Hello Martina!
First off, thank you for creating this incredible app! I have tried many diet apps like My Net Diary, My Fitness Pal, Lose It! and several others. I have also tried a variety of recipe apps to collect and organize recipes that I have found on websites and blogs like yours as well as those I have created myself. What I love most about the Keto Diet App is that it is both a diet tracking app AND a recipe book in one, not to mention it's planning and shopping list features. It is truly the perfect single app for keto! I have not seen others that combine all these features. It is exactly what I have been looking for!
Secondly, I have to say that I am so very disappointed by all of the negative commenters and complainers. Why is it that the price of the app is such an issue with these tightwads? I'm sure they drop the same amount of cash every day at McDonald's or Starbucks without thinking twice! Hey, why not invest a few bucks in this comprehensive tool that will not only teach you to eat right but make it easy and enjoyable and will serve you for years to come? The price is an absolute bargain including the in-app add-ons!
The only thing I can think of that could make it any better for me is if there were a web app that synced with the mobile devices to make planning and recipe creating that much easier. Oh, and maybe if you dropped in a few days a week to cook for me!
Thank you once again for the great app and all the great recipes! Please keep up the good work!

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
2/18/2018 3:11:36 PM

Hi Tim, thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate that. We are grateful for all user feedback as it helps us decide on the most wanted features.
There is a pattern. Looking at the reviews, 90% of them are about the price of apps/in-apps. Also, those who complain about price/in-apps take free content for granted and don't realise there is significant investment involved (time, effort and money). Having said that, we appreciate honest feedback - both positive and negative - because that's how we can keep improving the app. But complaints about prize/in-apps from the vocal minority have no value for us and potential new users.
If a web app is what you'd like, I think you will be pleased with what we plan to release this year 😊

Dear Martina & team,
Firstly I want to say: I appreciate all the effort, the attention to detail, and the meticulous care and thought you have put into making the Ketodietapp. I am a perfectionist, planner and researcher and feel annoyed by less than great apps a lot - yours is a shining exception that makes life for us ketocooks easier by a lot.
Here is my question: As you know a ketogenic lifestyle is often an all family affair, as it takes organization and teamwork to make yummy, healthy, real food while also having busy lives to lead. My husband does most of our cooking these days due to our work schedules, and he would love to use your app. The problem: he cannot access the recipe packages that I bought with my account, although he was able to download the app through Apple’s family sharing option. This makes it  less attractive for me to buy your additional packages and makes it harder for my husband and me to use your app. If family sharing is activated, and one family member buys extra in-app content, the others should be able to access it without paying extra. Right? Please tell me it’s a technical error or our own mistake and family sharing allows for in-app purchases to be synchronized without double costs.
As a little side-note: Wouldn’t it be great to be able to share and edit shopping lists with your family members, so that if one goes shopping after work the other can check off the list what you already have at home, and edit the list simultaneously, like in Apple’s notes?
Thank you for all your efforts and my best regards to you & your fabulous team!
Yours,
Gigi from Gigisblogworld & a big fan of your fantastic work!

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
2/4/2018 9:19:20 PM

Thank you for your kind words, Gigi! To answer your questions:
1. Apple family will enable you to share apps but not in-apps. I understand that this may be frustrating and I hope this will change in the future but I’m afraid there is nothing we (as developers) can do about this. You can read more here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203046
2. Great point! And it's not something we had in our to-do list, so I'll discuss this with my partner! I'm not sure how complicated/easy it will be to implement this but we will look into it when we work on the custom meal sharing feature.
Thanks again for your feedback!

Hi, I have just started using the app and loving it so far but not sure how to enter my own ingredients for a meal I have made from scratch. I know how to add for example 20g carrots but it asks me to enter how many grams of protein, carbs, fats etc per 100g how do I find this information for each food in my meal?
My other question: I downloaded app to my android phone is there anyway of getting it on my kindle fire tablet, amazon seem to block the download or might just be not doing something right. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Donna, for any questions about how to use the app, please, visit our online guide via Menu > Help > Online KetoDiet guide (will be renamed to How to use KetoDiet in the upcoming update). In short, you can create a custom meal by adding up ingredients or by directly specifying nutrition facts (eg in case of readymade meals). You can also create custom ingredients (more info in our guide). When it comes to Android, I'm afraid you can only buy our app via Google Play. I hope this helps!

I bought your Keto  diet basic app and I use Voice Over since I am blind. At first Voice Over could read some recipes and while exploring the app I am now stuck on the Guide. I cannot find any buttons or navigation means to get out of the guide section.  I thought this app would let me record daily food but it is not very accessible to Voice Over users! I really want out of the guide! Why don't any navigation buttons show up?

Nikos @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
2/2/2018 8:42:51 AM

Hi Sherrie,
Accessibility is an area we need to do more work as we use a large number of custom UI elements. To change section in the app you need to activate the menu at the top middle of the screen. The menu text is the section you're looking at (e.g. KetoDiet Guide) and once pressed it changes to 'Menu' and lists all other sections in the the app, e.g. KetoDiet Meals, Custom Meals, Ingredients, etc Selecting any of these options will take you out of the guide.
Best,
Nikos

My husband bought this app, and we are in family sharing however as of today your app states that this app is no longer shared with me. But family sharing IS on and my husband IS sharing apps with me. Is this a flaw???

Nikos @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
1/19/2018 7:32:06 PM

Hi Janice,
family sharing is a feature provided by the App Store and not by individual apps. When you enable family sharing your purchases are automatically shared with other family members. This article explains how family sharing works: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201085 and this one explains what can actually be shared: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203046
I would advice that you confirm your family settings have not changed on your accounts and if that's the case then you'll have to contact Apple: https://support.apple.com/apps - I'm sure they will able to help you.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for buying our app! I'm afraid that it's the same case with in-apps. Since iOS and Android are different platforms, no purchases can be shared - this is out of our control (we only receive a part of the proceeds, not the full amount). I have seen several comments about making the app available either via the site or a pc app. I want to say that this is something that would be a huge bonus for me. The issue I have with the app is imputing recipes and foods. If i had an Ipad that would not be as much as an issue. Please make the idea of allowing users to use it web based or on pc a higher priority. if you are working on syncing between devices it seems that making it web based would be a similar, yet much more complicated endeavor. For me it would go from being a alright app to being an excellent app.

Hello, just got this app yesterday and I love how it calculates net carbs and makes all the macros visible at the top of the planner. I was wondering if there’s any way to add a recipe by providing a link to the recipe, rather than individually add each ingredient for a recipe. Thank you!

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
12/29/2017 10:48:59 AM

Hi Heena, we did look into this option but I'm afraid there is currently no reliable way to do this.
Apps that enable users to import recipes from the web use what is known as "fuzzy matching". Since accuracy is our key priority, we don't use crowd-sourcing and fuzzy matching, we use only verified data.
The way fuzzy matching works is that a software is trying to guess the ingredients and amounts used in recipes. Apart from amounts, it often gets the ingredients wrong (e.g. there can be more types of ground pork with different fat content).
We will, however, keep improving our app to make creating custom meals even easier. I hope this helps!

Dear Sir/Ma’am,
I am having an issue with adding foods to the app.  It’s probably something simple, but I haven’t figured it out.  When adding food or creating a meal, it won’t let me change the serving size.  ie, I scan the coconut oil and it says that one serving is 1 tbsp.  But I only use 1tsp.  Why won’t it let me change from tbsp to tsp?

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
12/3/2017 9:34:28 PM

Hello David,
I just double checked and all seems to be working fine. You can change the serving size of any custom meal in the Custom Meals tab > tap on the meal, tap on Edit (the pen tool), tap to change the serving size and save.
When adding a meal to the Planner, once you tap on the meal to be added, you will see a screen that has servings listed - you can tap on it and change to any number and then tap save.
If at any point you want to change the servings (once the meal has already been added), you can tap on the meal in the Planner and then you'll see the same screen where you can tap on the servings to edit and save.
The same applies to Quick Meals such as an avocado where you can tap to change the amounts (in oz, grams, etc).
Or if you can you send us a screenshot, then we can have a look (if this doesn't help). You can contact us via Help > Online Support (option to send us an email), or directly via ketodietapp.com/Blog/contact

Thanks Tracey

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
11/13/2017 11:32:30 AM

Hi Tracey, I'm afraid this is out of our control. When you buy any app on the AppStore or Google Play, developers like us receive a percentage of the proceeds, as the app is distributed via their platforms. Since iOS and Android are two different platforms, they do not share their transactions and we don't have ways to "port" the app. You could try to see if you can get a refund for the iPhone app (in iTunes). Please, keep in mind that iOS and Android do not sync yet (this is what we've been working on now), so if you have and data in the Planner, you won't see them on your Android device.

Hi Cynda, both of our apps (KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic) are universal which means that once you buy one of the apps on one iOS device, the same app will work on your second iOS device. You can download it on your iPad and won't be charged as long as it is the same app.

Hi! First of all, thanks for all the awesome recipes and super handy to use ebook!
I've downloaded your Vegetarian Paleo Diet E-book about a week ago. I really like how you made it, but there's just one thing that I think is a bit inappropriate (from a vegetarian's perspective). I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and I read the whole book word for word (weird skill I got from my job...) and sometimes there are these words that refer to animals or animal parts which probably you just missed to delete or replace (or maybe just haven't thought about it, I haven't met a non vegetarian who actually does).
Is there a lot of time necessary to delete or replate them? I could highlight them all for you, just send me an email! I want to print some of the recipes  and I thought I might just ask if it's possible to make these very small changes!
Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have a question I have posted in several FB groups and another specifically for for you. I have been reading that older people have higher protein requirements and also as we age we tend to eat less protein. As a 62 year old this is of concern to me and others in my age group but either we are hearing a generalized “people don’t need to worry about protein” or “most people consume too much protein” but they aren’t acknowledging different age groups have different concerns.    And it’s frustrating not to get blown off. So I would like to ask you, as you researched setting and calculating macros, if you encountered information pertinent to keto recommendations for older people. I was told your app makes adjustments for age, however when I tested that assertation by changing my DOB to 22 and 72, there was no change in any of the macros. And that leads me to my second question:
Given the potential for abuse of privacy, if this app does not recognize age as a factor for calculations, why are we required to enter our date of birth.
Thanks.

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
10/30/2017 5:06:42 PM

Hello, Renee, it is correct that as we age, our protein requirements go up: All You Need to Know About Protein on a Low-Carb Ketogenic Diet
The age in our calculations is used to calculate the Basal Metabolic Rate and affects fat intake (you can read more here: KetoDiet Buddy - Easy Macro Calculator for the Ketogenic Diet) but it is not used in the calculations for protein. As far as I can remember, there were no specific recommendations for different age groups but I'll look into it and update it if possible. In general, in you stick with the recommendations from the calculator and you should be fine. We use Volek & Phinney's recommendations (more in the post I linked to). I can assure you we do not extract/use users data in any way. Protecting user data is, in fact, one of our key priorities. I hope this helps!

I am glad to hear you have found a way to make this app sustainable. After downloading free or inexpensive apps and investing hours over months entering data (be it exercise, recipes, etc.) and then having the app not be updated, sold to a hedge fund that discontinues development, etc. to the point it’s unusable and my data is lost, I am very careful about apps I use.  I would much rather the developers have a way to continue making money to support their past, current, and future work on the app.

Hello Donna, as long as both devices are linked to the same iTunes account, you will be able to use it on both of them without having to pay again. If it doesn't appear automatically (you can set that in the settings), then you can re-download the app on the other device.

Hello Kirsten, in this case it may be best to contact Apple support. All purchases are always linked to your iTunes account so as long as you use the same iTunes account, you should be able to download the app again free of charge - this is how it works with all apps. You can tap to download the app and you won't be charged. I hope this helps!

Colleen 7 years ago #

You need to have a home page and a way to
delete and or edit a recipe that is added. There is no way to either delete a recipe or even rename it. Nor can you edit the macros you have entered is they are incorrect after you have saved the recipe.

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
10/10/2017 7:29:01 PM

Are you sure you are using our app? There is an easy way to do all that:
To delete a recipe, you simply tap on the recipe in your custom Meals > then tap on "edit" which is the pen tool on top right. To delete this meal, there is a red "delete" on top right in the editing mode.
When you create a custom meal, you can define it based on ingredients or nutritional data. To edit the macros directly, you need to have a custom meal defined by "nutritional data" - you can then change the macros as you wish.
If you are referring to "custom Ingredients" which you enter based on the packaging such as per 30 g/ 1 oz, 100 g, etc., then when you tap "save" the nutrition facts are listed per 100 g (the universal standard for weights). When adding this ingredient to any meal or to a day, you can then specify the exact amount.

What?
I am baffled.
I can only be lucky enough to use your app if I own an iPhone?????
That's unbelievably disappointing and why you'd do that seems like a form of elitism.
That's like saying if we don't only drive a certain make of car, we aren't allowed to purchase any fuel for it.
Anyways.

Hello Jenna, that's not quite the same. We actually made the app available on Android - this post is out of date (I will update it). It is not a matter of any elitism and I wish people realised how much work it takes to bring apps to other platforms, it just takes time. Here's the announcement post which also explains all the steps we had to make to bring it to this level: New Upgrade Path for KetoDiet Basic (Android)

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #

Hello, as much as we would love to do that, iOS and Android is a different platforms and they do not share their profits from selling apps. The way developers distribute their apps is that they only get a percentage of the proceeds - not the full amount listed, and they we cannot selectively offer the apps for free to those who already have it a different platform.

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #

Hi Meg, shopping list can be generated from custom meals (from the Custom Meals tab). What you may have meant is custom ingredients? We plan to add this functionality in the near future (generating shopping list by adding single custom ingredients). For now, anything added to the Planner can be used to generate a shopping list for a given period of time (you can do that from the Planner tab).

I love the Keto Diet App and I love this blog!
BUT I am going crazy inputting data for each and every ingredient/ meal  on my mobile phone. It's the only thing that puts me off using the app with the regularity I would like. I don't have an iPad and I had really hoped I could access my account on the website... I see a year ago one of you guys said the app would be available on desktop "later this year" (I imagine the target was 2016?)
Any idea when or if a desktop version will come available?
Thanks for all the hard work!

Martina @ KetoDiet 7 years ago #
7/11/2017 7:08:12 PM

Thank you very much Angharad! That is correct, we were planning to do that last year but we've spent a lot more time working on the Android app and some high priority features for iOS. Also, the truth is that with all software, you never know what kind of issues you come across and how much time it will take to resolve them.
This year, we have been going though major and vital technical changes that instantly added several months of extra work that we didn't anticipate. My estimate for the desktop version (2016-2017) was too optimistic and we simply needed to focus on high priority tasks such as fully-featured Android app, bar code scanning based on verified databases, enhancements in progress tracking, etc. Based on feedback, the desktop version is not on top of the list, but we will do our best to start working on it as soon as we can.
Thank you for your kind words and support!

Yes, you can. You can do that in the Custom Meals tab > tap on the meal you want to edit to view it > then tap on the "edit" button (it looks like a pen) on the top of the screen.
This will update any existing entries you may have in the Planner for that meal and may change the nutrition facts.

I have many recipes that I already eat that are keto, is there a way to add or import them so that I can use the meal planner?

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
4/20/2017 1:18:00 PM

Hi Melissa, we did look into this option but I'm afraid there is currently no reliable/ accurate way to do this.
Our next step is to add a barcode scanning feature. I hope this helps!

Hi,
I got the ketodiet cos when I checked for the in-app purchase, it had only one item to buy...
Now it appears there are about  6  or so in-app packages? Scrolling through the recipes...
So it doesn't appear I am getting many recipes? Is this really the intention? Because I could have gotten the basic n bought all these interesting packages?
I liked the app, and when I saw only 1 in app purchase package... I was inspired to get the full app instead of the Basic one.
This feels pretty basic to me...

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
4/8/2017 11:40:20 PM

Hi Val, I'm not sure why you would think that there was only 1 in-app. Every app is tagged with the exact number of in-apps (this is done by Apple automatically). We are doing the best we can to make this clear - it is:
1) on our website: ketodietapp.com/
2) on the primary AppStore Screenshot (It says  that there are 96 recipes included, 450 + recipes from the integrated KetoDiet blog, and 190 recipes in 6 in-app purchasing packages)
3) in the AppStore description
There is a significant difference between the "Basic" app and the fully featured app. The fully featured app additionally contains our keto calculator (Profile tab), a low-carb Planner (including custom meals, restaurant meals and custom ingredients) and Progress monitoring. All the features are listed on our website in detail: ketodietapp.com/
Also, keep in mind that apart from the Optional recipes, we included 450+ free recipes from our integrated blog - all these can be used in the Planner. The vast majority of recipes are included (over 550).

Just downloaded the universal version on my iPhone today.
It looks good!  But 1 piece of feedback:
On the iPhone, when you go to menu, the last menu item (Help) is cut off at the bottom of the screen, you therefore cannot select it.  Scrolling down briefly allows you to see it, but you remain unable to select it.
So, ironically, you may receive lots of 'help' requests!
Question:
Within 'Basket', it does not appear that one can add your own items as you would on a shopping list. Being able to add your own would be very hand. Please confirm, thank you.
Good job!  Josie

Thanks,

Ive entered my breakfast and lunch and im heading towards my daily macros but the protein line is red while the others are green. What does this mean? My daily protein macro is 63.5g and ive had 30g so far with dinner to go.

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
3/18/2017 10:54:51 AM

Hi Sharon, it means that you haven't had enough protein. It will go green as soon as you get adequate protein. You can see that in the Planner -> select the day where you planned meals -> tap on "Details" and you will see your daily overview (planned/tracked meals vs your daily targets). Our app will warn you when you don't have enough and when you've had too much protein. There has been a major app update in January and March (improving and simplifying the overall UI and adding new features) and we will write a guide once the main changes are applied.

Hi Sally, we use a verified food database (mostly USDA) and the foods are sometimes specified in cups, tablespoons, slices, or leaves. You can also add ingredients ain grams or ounces (oz) - this option is in every food entry. I think that the cream you have been using most likely lists carbs per "serving" such as 1 tablespoon, and that's why it seems like it has zero carbs. If the label was to list carbs per 100 grams, then you'd see that it's not zero-carb. Even if you can't find an ingredient in the database, you can create your own custom ingredients in the Custom Ingredients tab, and then use them in your meals (Custom Meals tab). I hope this helps.

Hello,
I have tried to download the full iOS app today; however, I keep getting the message that it 'cannot be downloaded at this time' about 3/4 of the way through downloading. I have enough storage on my phone so I'm struggling to work out what the problem is without any further details.

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #

Hello Janine, I'm not sure what the issue is but try the following:
- make sure you are connected to a wifi (the app is large)
- restart your device and try to download it again. If you already paid for the app, you won't be charged again (Apple keeps a receipt for every transaction). I hope this helps!

I like this app but I keep buying the same recipes. It's like I buy them see them then they go away and I buy them again. I'm frustrated I've spent about 5.00 and I still don't have any more the next time I get on.

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
2/28/2017 2:37:58 AM

Hi Julie, I'm not sure what the issue is but I can guarantee that you can't be charged twice, as Apple doesn't charge twice for any apps/in-apps users have previously purchased (once you pay for any app/ in-app, you won't be charged again even if you try to buy it). You can verify that by checking your iTunes statement. Have you tried tapping "restore all purchases" in the Setting? I hope this helps.

Hi Anne, you can still track total carbs (all macronutrients are tracked in the Planner), but you won't be able to set a total carb limit at the moment. We would like to add an option to track total carbs in a future update but we currently have some high-priority tasks and it my take some time to implement it.

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
1/12/2017 8:26:27 PM

Hi Louise, firstly, thank you for buying my app! The most important factors for calculating protein intake are weight and body fat. Height is also one of the factors that affect macros and we have implemented this in the upcoming update that has a built-in macronutrient calculator. It will be out in 1-2 weeks as a free update! We use Dr Volek & Phinney's recommendations which are very accurate.

Hi Nicole, thank you for buying my app! You can update your weight, carbohydrate limit, body fat and measurements in the Planner Tab  -> Edit -> tap on the green pen tool of what you want to edit and tap "save". It will apply from the day you have selected in the Planner. The universal app will be out in 1-2 weeks so the interface will improve and be more intuitive.

Costco sells whey powder brand name muscle milk. 1 scoop -130 calories ; 3G carbs ;27 G protein.  Is this ok for a keto diet?

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
10/12/2016 11:46:47 PM

I don't think it's a good option. I may be wrong but some of the ingredients in this product are maltodextrin, corn fiber, canola oil and even fructose. Also, what you want is whey protein isolate.  If there are 3 grams of carbs per scoop, it must be whey protein concentrate. Isolate would be round 4 grams of carbs per 100 grams.

I cannot lot into the track feature, which I paid for.  I have repeatedly tried to correct it and can't seem to.  I am sure you will claim that this is "misleading" and if you can clear it up that would be great, otherwise the "wait a bit and try again" feature really should be fixed!

A feature I would like to see is to somehow merge your cookbooks (the ones from Amazon) into the app.  That would really help with meal planning and make it easier to track my macros.
If the full cookbook can't be imported, then how about the info (without the recipe) about each meal so we can select it for tracking meals.
Thank you!!  We love this app!

Hi Martina,
I absolutely love your website and recipes. I just wanted to mention though, that I can't access your KetoDiet on Android because I only have a Kindlefire and it doesn't accept GooglePlay. I've even tried to get it on my computer(pc), but that doesn't work either. Thanks also for all that you provide.

Jessica 8 years ago #
6/15/2016 5:33:26 AM

I haven't been able to find the answer to this anywhere: with all the recipes available on the app, is the aim to just mix and match the breakfasts, lunch and dinners? Or does one have to follow a specific routine of meals on certain days or only a certain amount of times per week?
If you could make this clearer or direct me to the answer it would be much appreciated.

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
6/15/2016 3:13:14 PM

Hi Jessica, this is very individual. Some people eat three times a day (+ sometimes also have snacks), while others eat once or twice (intermittent fasting). It's up to you and will depend on how hungry you feel.
Just to clarify: The iPad app will enable you to track what you are eating, while the iPad app is "Basic" and doesn't include the tracking option (not yet). I hope this helps!

I have sent several emails and have never received a reply. I purchased the KetoDiet App form my iPad and have been using it though I would say the instructions are very lacking. Most of what I have done has been by trial and error. I bought the KetoDiet Basic and all the add ons for my iPhone but if this is not going to be updated to include the planner, tracker etc. as the one for the iPad I would like to get a refund and purchase the App when completed. I spent $8.66 of my ITunes Store credit for this App(and add ons) which are basically useless at this point. I have sent this data in before. If someone will contact me personally. I can submit again. I would like to be reimbursed for this cost at this time. Contact me at kathiemoody@ charter.net for further instruction. Thank you

Martina @ KetoDiet 8 years ago #
6/9/2016 1:33:36 PM

Hi Kathie,
I'm sorry to hear that. I did a quick search through all my inboxes but have't found any e-mail from the address you used here. Please, keep in mind that we do not handle any sales/transactions. The way it works on the AppStore is that you have to get a refund directly from iTunes, not app developers. As I explained in this post, we are working on the universal app which includes the following steps:
- make KetoDiet (iPad) a universal App with support for all iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) - our current task
- bring KetoDiet (full version) to Android - our current task
- provide access to all advanced features for KetoDiet Basic users through in-apps. We want to make it easy for those who want to update from KetoDiet Basic to KetoDiet.
I hope this helps. Best regards, Martina

Thank you so much for making such a great app! It's helped me immensely with planning my meals and hitting my correct levels. Thanks to this I've finally lost my stomach fat in a week and I have recommended the app to my friends too. The only qualm I have with it is it would be nice to see substituted ingredients on certain recipes. I have a really bad nut allergy & I'm quite highly sensitive to traces too, so things like all nuts, seeds and even coconut (oil/flesh) I cannot touch at all. Trying to find information and advice on what to use in place of these things is incredibly frustrating for people like myself. If you could do something like that in this app, I'm sure it would be VERY much appreciated by many people.

Thank you so much! In the new version we are planning to make add functionality for new recipes that are based on the recipes in the Meals tab. This way you will be able to use alternatives. Martina, Thanks again for an amazing blog as I start my Keto journey. I just downloaded the app and I'm amazed that there isn't a basic list of staple foods to add to make your own meal. I do not have the patience to manually enter in all my foods I eat on a regular basis if I am not making a recipe by you. Am i missing something? I cannot just add half an avocado to the list of foods I ate for the day?

Are we supposed to be able to search/add all the recipes in the KetoDiet Cookbook to our KetoDiet App? If so there appear to be several missing.
Side Note:  We really really REALLY need and import/export feature for our custom meals/ingredients.  Relying on an iPad backup isn't ideal, especially if you're temporarily sharing an iPad and switching to your own device.

Martina @ KetoDiet 9 years ago #
3/28/2016 4:42:11 PM

Syrenh, I'm afraid I won't be able to do that. Recipes from the KetoDiet cookbook cannot be added to the app due to contractual limitations and copyright agreement with my publisher.
We'd love to add all these features but it takes time. Our priority is to finish the universal app and make the planning feature available on the iPhone and Android devices. After this is done, we will add more features (the export function is in our to-do list). The new universal app will also have multiple profile options.

Hi Eileen, sorry for the late reply - it's better if you contact KetoDiet support (email in the app) for this purpose. It takes time to approve and reply to all the comments on my blog so there is a delay. The "restore purchases" will load all the recipes you have previously purchased - you don't have to pay more than once. Please, keep in mind that you can only restore recipes from the same app, not between KetoDiet Basic and KetoDiet (please, see point 3 in this post). I hope this helps. Martina

Hi, Martina! I think your app looks great and I can't wait to try the full app when it comes out for Android. I would love to get in on the beta testing, should that be a possibility. My current question has to do with how specific one would be able to get, as far as calculating recipes with specific brands of foods goes. For example, I always buy the same brands of bacon, cheese, lunch meats, etc. to create my meals (creature of habit, I guess). Some apps (e.g. myfitnesspal) allow us to create meals with our preferred brands in order to make our tracking as accurate as possible. Other apps (e.g. Eat This Much) don't have an extensive database for such a task. Where does your app fall in this spectrum?

Martina @ KetoDiet 9 years ago #
1/11/2016 4:11:43 PM

Hi Carly, if you want to take part in the beta-testing program, please, send us an e-mail (ketodietapp.com/Blog/contact) and we will include you in the list. Once it's out, I'll send out details on how to get a copy.
When it comes to the database, we aim for accuracy rather than volume. What I mean is that our database is not "shared" between users but each user can create his own custom ingredients and custom meals. What we want to avoid is a large database that is full of inaccurate data and double entries. There is more about it in point 11 in this post. I hope this helps 😊

Any chance this is coming to Windows 10 (pc) as a universal app? this would be amazing on it! From what I understand, its not hard to port from ipad.

Martina @ KetoDiet 9 years ago #
11/26/2015 8:36:52 PM

Hi Marianne, yes, we have plans for that too - sometime next year. I'll announce it when we start working on it 😊 It is a complex app and it's more difficult to make it for other devices - unfortunately, not all apps are easy to port. We have been working on an Android app for the last 3 months (KetoDiet Basic is almost done) and have a few more months to complete the fully featured KetoDiet app.

I'm anxious to know when a Windows 10 version will be coming. I've purchased it for iPad, but I rarely use the iPad as I'm a Windows guy, and will gladly pay to have it again on the Windows machines - phone/PC/tablet (my PC is Surface Book). I can see myself and my wife using this app nearly daily on Windows, though I might look at it once a month on the iPad.
Suggestion when you do start the Windows version - look into Xamarin and make it a cross platform app, making maintenance easier with iOS, Android, and Windows all on the same code base. ;)

I just can't believe that some people complain about the extra packages when they get so many recipes for just a few bucks. I mean wha't the difference between this and a cookbook or even an ebook? Some people sell ebooks on their websites for tens of dollars just for a few recipes... I mean I bought some myself from a similar website and it wasn't worth half of what I paid. Keep up the great work, you do so much for us and I hope everyone realizes that!!!

Love this app and use it daily.  Thanks for making it.
We definitely need more measurement/serving size options when creating custom meals and ingredients a.s.a.p; oz or grams isn't enough.
Was thinking of getting a new iPad soon but was under the impression if that happens I would have to recreate all my custom ingredients/meals.  Is that correct?  If so is there any plans for a meal/ingredient import/ export feature?

Martina @ KetoDiet 9 years ago #
10/15/2015 7:09:56 PM

Thank you Syrehn! Yes, we are planning to add custom serving sizes which you can then create yourself (slices, packets, etc.). You can get a new iPad and use all your meals on it as long as you have back ups of your old device. When you then restore it on your new device it will be there 😊

I can't believe it's only $11 for all those features and recipes.  I paid 10 times that for all the paleohacks and felt it was worth every penny.  You're sporting an ipad and complaining about spending an extra $5...might be time to pawn it, just saying

Is there a way to modify the ingredients of an app recipe and get a nutrition recalibration? For example, I'm doing the lemon chicken skewers tonight but only have chicken breasts rather than the called for chicken thighs. Maybe for now I'll just make a new custom meal.

Martina @ KetoDiet 9 years ago #
9/2/2015 7:40:57 PM

Hi Carrye, yes, this is the best way to do it for now (create a custom meal). We do plan to add the "create similar" functionality to KetoDiet Meals too but that will be done after the universal app and will involve more work: e.g. some of the meals use what we internally call "nutritional factor" which is used in meals like bone broth where only part of the ingredients are included in the nutrition facts calculation as some may be wasted during the cooking process.

Thank you! If you go to the Meals tab -> tap on All Meals -> Packages - you will see which packages you have bought and which recipes are in each of the packages. The great thing about Apple is that they make sure you cannot buy any in-app twice. You can check that in your statement - they handle all the transactions.

This app is exactly what I am looking for, I can't wa it for the anDroid app! I am new to the keto diet. My whole family is on it including my 3 kids whose ages ranges from 9-17. We have been on the diet for about 6 weeks and we all have lost a about 15 lbs or more. This app would help keep us on track, and help us make the right choices and still have the variety that we all want. It would be worth the price,

Hi. I have a question. My 10 year old is in a keto diet for epilepsy.  Does this app support the ratios of a ketogenic diet?  He's on a 3.1 ratio, each meal 238 calories. 950 calories a day.  I have purchased the app and i am still learning how to best use it for him.  Our dietician uses a keto calculator which i don't have access too. I have to wait fir months fir any new recipe for him. He ate the same meal for 2 years! Yikes! I have switched dieticians 3 times. As with most things in life, they get dine when we do them our self. So of i can do most of the work/ calculating/ developing  recipes, she can approve them. Its a bit harder for us moms with special needs kiddos who have eating/ swallowing Dx's. We have to make the recipes pureed. We also use gram scales to weigh out each ingredient by the tenth of a gram. Its a very strict diet, for epilepsy.  Do you think this app would be helpful for this version of the diet? Thanks, its really a great app.

Martina @ KetoDiet 9 years ago #
5/18/2015 11:42:10 PM

Hi Kimberly, yes, this app is designed to be used to the ketogenic diet but it uses % or macronutrients rather than ratios (it doesn't support specific ratios like 3:1). What you do is that you set a limit to the net carbs and then the app calculates the ideal protein range (based on weight and body fat) and then fat is eaten to satiety. There is no limit on calories / fat but you can see the daily macros and make sure he stays within the required limits. Here is a keto calculator that will give you an idea of his "ideal" macronutrients: KetoDiet Buddy - Easy Macro Calculator for the Ketogenic Diet
If you need some ideas for meals, don't forget to check the "Recipe" tab on this blog. You can set some preferences there (how many carbs it should have or use it to filter through allergy-friendly options). To find the meal that you can use for such a strict diet, you will have to go through the recipes to see detailed nutrition facts but I'm sure you will find some - there are over 200 of them. Hope this helps! Martina

Martina @ KetoDiet 10 years ago #
5/6/2015 11:37:00 PM

Hi Rita, there are always easy options. In the app you can arrange the recipes based on your preferences such as time to prepare. On my blog, you can filter through the recipes - feel free to try it yourself (select "easy & few ingredients"): Recipes

Depending on who's data you believe, Android probably has over 80% of the global market in smartphones...so why on earth do you not support Android? I find that odd to say the least.
http://www.businessinsider.com/iphone-v-android-market-share-2014-5?IR=T

Martina @ KetoDiet 10 years ago #
4/27/2015 7:58:31 PM

Hi Ian, it's not just the market share that plays role in it. We take everything into account and developing for Android is more complex because there are more devices to support. Also, based on previous experience (KetoDiet is no our first app), it's easier to develop for iOS. However, that doesn't mean we won't create the app for Android. In fact, we have plans to bring KetoDiet to Android this year.

Candace 10 years ago #

I know you mentioned that the iPad doesn't have profiles, so the app doesn't. But I bought an iPad just so I could use this app, and my husband and I both want to do keto. I would really love to see profile switching in the app, or a way to track multiple users. I'm sure there are tons of couples in our same situation.

Martina @ KetoDiet 10 years ago #
4/27/2015 8:01:29 PM

Hi Candace, software development takes time and we have a long list of features to add - we will do our best to support more users in the near future.

Francesco (http://www.ahac.cc/) 9 years ago #
2/24/2016 1:06:26 AM

Market share is not what counts with app development so much, android is the Nokia of our era. The fact is that iOS users purchase more apps than android users even with its huge market share. Bottom line is iOS is much more viable for app developers plus, it's much easier to develope on. If you want quality apps go iOS.

Dennis 10 years ago #

Hi, I am a bodybuilder and i love the fact that your app seems to automatic calculate by bodyweight and max carb intake. I havent bought it yet because i was wondering if its possible to let the app calculate by max calorie intake instead of bodyweight Thx for your trouble. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Martina @ KetoDiet 10 years ago #
4/19/2015 7:34:11 PM

Hi Dennis, the main focus of the app is not calorie consumption but it is carbohydrate intake / tracking. Although you can track all your macronutrients and even some micronutrients (electrolytes), it does not calculate your maximum calorie / fat intake. Carbs are recommended (there is a guide), protein is calculated based on your lean mass (a range, min and max based on activity level). Fat is eaten to satiety. You can keep an eye your calorie intake but it will not calculate your max intake (maybe in one of the future updates of KetoDiet 😊 You can get the app, see if you like it or get a refund if it's not what you've expected.
Here is what can help you determine your macros more precisely: KetoDiet Buddy - Easy Macro Calculator for the Ketogenic Diet (our on-line keto calculator)

Amazing App and website! I am so bummed the app is not yet available for Android. Seriously considering an iPad purchase to support the switch to a Keto-Lifestyle with the help of your app. I've been Keto for a while now, but need better tracking capability and Macro meal planning than what I have been able to do for myself using MyFitnessPal, for example. So thank you for this! Maybe I will spring for the iPad and do the challenge ;)

Maz 10 years ago #

I do really appreciate this app and probably recommend it 3 or 4 times a week on FB groups, which means it's seen by a lot of people.  The protein reminder is not helpful for me as I'm insulin resistant.
What would I like?  To be able to delete some of the heaps of identical items in the list of foods when searching for meat. I'm still measuring cooked food as in reality I only have a small portion of a pork belly roast or leg of lamb.   And I realise it's impossible to identify fat from protein in those cuts with a generic system.
What do I want to know?  How do I record actual saturated fats?   Like port fat or crackling.
I did mail you to say the app is hard to find on Apple and you replied, but you miss understood  what I thought was a helpful comment.  Instead I felt like a naughty child being told off...  But I still love this app.  It's the most honest weight recorder iv used.

Martina @ KetoDiet 10 years ago #
3/1/2015 12:43:26 AM

Hi Maz, thank you for your kind words! Our database uses the USDA database which is very accurate and does contain a lot of different types of foods and I also keep adding more keto-friendly foods in every update.
I know what you mean, there are several items for all different kinds of meats (raw / with / without skin / fat / etc). They are not completely identical but are quite similar. You can always search by using multiple words (e.g. "lamb cooked"). I'll have a look at how your suggestion could work technically but it's not as simple as it may sound (e.g. I may be using "that" specific ingredient in one of the meals I post on the blog that can be added to the planner).
Saturated fats - I think this is a valid point as some people may want to be able to track more details. KetoDiet currently tracks all the macros plus electrolytes simply because that's what the majority of users expect. We don't want to add unnecessary complexity, so we will likely make tracking more details optional for those who will be interested in details.
I think we may have misunderstood each other - I've tried to find your email but I think you may have used a different one. Sorry if it sounded that way!
Thanks again for all the feedback!
